Figured the best way to open up our little Hawaiian world is to give an illustrated summary of our settling in and what we’ve been doing. Here goes!
We arrived one early early morning in the airport in Honolulu. A couple we had befriended through Facebook over the summer were ever so kind as to pick us up at 5am and drive us back to the little apartment that would be our new home. Though we had been flying all night the drive up the coast of Oahu was so breathtakingly beautiful that we did not fall asleep in the car. As if Hawaii was really giving it all to show off for the pale newcomers, this sunrise knocked our socks off!
Laie is not a big place, but there are a few main attractions that we had to stop by on our first walk. The LDS temple is the closest, and what a gorgeous sight to have the priviledgeof passing every day!
Next is the BYUH campus where Marcus goes to school (and I spend hours in the library doing online classes) and right next door is the PCC. Several times a day the sound of drums and singing can be heard on campus from there.
Since we knew we were coming to Hawaii Marcus has been talking about how fun it was gonna be to exercise when we could go run on the beach. So we had to try that one of our first mornings (while we were still jetlagged). I learned pretty fast that I hate running on sand, but the sunrise was simply gorgeous.
One of our first weeks we had the opportunity to tag along for a trip to Honolulu with some friends.
Apart from all of this cool stuff we have of course also spent oodles of time with our noses in books… but I’ll get back to that later!
